Abundant Mission

Passage:John 10:1-10

There is and must be a necessary and organic connection between 'being' and 'doing'. Right doing must spring from right being. Our understanding of human nature is often focused only on right doing (however we may define that). If we do 'good' things then therefore we must be 'good' as well. this rationale doesn't hold up to life or to scripture. We must have a new root planted in us, Jesus himself must be planted in us and bring forth goodness. Thus right being is found in Jesus, who said (in our Gospel lesson, John 10:1-10) he is the gate of the sheep, and from him springs right doing. As a church tasked with making disciples of all nations, we see this connection between being and doing in our New Testament Lesson form Acts 2 with the very first Christians living into "the apostle's teaching and fellowship, the breaking of the bread and the prayers...and selling their possessions so none were in need." In other words they were worshiping, loving, learning, and serving - which is what we are still doing today!
