April Fools in the Garden

Passage:John 20:1-18

Preacher: Ben Phillips

On this Easter Day we recognize the irony of the date: April 1st. Many have believed that Jesus' resurrection is nothing more than a hoax, a first-century apostolic "April Fool's" ploy to make the world think Jesus came back from the dead. As we examine the apostolic witness, that is the Gospels we ask ourselves if their testimony is reliable. In John's gospel account of Jesus' resurrection we find Mary Magdalene at the tomb of Jesus. John tells us that she thinks Jesus is the gardener. What an odd bit of information to provide! Why does John go to the trouble of telling us this, and what does it have to do with the hope, beauty, and glory of Easter?
