Cross Or Glory

Passage:Galatians 1:1-12

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Series: The Cross Alone: The Message of Galatians

Crux sola est nostra theologia - "The Cross alone is our theology". This phrase was coined by the great Protestant Reformer Martin Luther almost 500 years ago. The Cross, that is Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension is the central feature of Christian thought and theology. Luther states there are two key stories in the world: a theology of glory and and theology of the Cross. Paul's letter to the Galatians is a short, fierce letter arguing for the centrality of the cross and the rescue of sinners by faith alone. It forms the backbone of Luther's theology. Over the next month we will be reading through Galatians. Today we explain the difference between glory theology and cross theology, and set the stage for our journey through Galatians.
