From the Veil to the Stone

Passage:Matthew 28:1-10

Preacher: Ben Phillips

The Easter Gospel reading from Matthew makes mention of two key elements to the Resurrection story: that there was an earthquake and that the stone over the tomb was rolled away. This echos last Sunday's Passion reading when Jesus died: there was an earthquake and the veil in the Temple was torn in two. In both events, there is an earthquake and a barrier between God and his people removed. We will examine these two events, and seek to understand the distinction between what the Gospel is and what the Gospel does, from the Veil to the Stone.
