Gospel Seeds and Kingdom Hearers

Passage:Matthew 13:1-23

Preacher: Ben Phillips

It is very easy to confuse what the Gospel is with what the Gospel produces. It is temping for Christians to view their faith only in terms of the impact it makes on the world, and certainly these days in the public square the only place it seems left for religious views to be permitted is when they motivate charitable volunteerism. However Jesus' parable in Matthew 13, the Parable of the Sower, paints a very different picture of how the kingdom of God works. Central to the whole story is that the kingdom of God is first and foremost something you hear, and then a matter of how you receive it. Today's sermon will explore more of what it means to hear the Good News and what Jesus teaches about receiving his Kingdom.
