Grace For Retrograde Motion

Passage:Romans 7:15-25

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Ease is the greatest obstacle to progress. So said renowned actor Denzel Washington at a graduation address. Struggle, perseverance are necessary if there is to be improvement. And yet here we find ourselves in a most difficult situation on so many fronts. Rather than moving "forward" we are moving backwards, what astronomers call "retrograde motion." How do we understand these things through the eyes of Scripture? In Romans 7, the apostle Paul provide the most incisive and accurate description of human nature ever written. Even as Christians who have the Holy Spirit, who trust in Christ and are new creations, struggle to do battle with our sinful nature. What sort of progress can we expect, if any?
