In A Mirror Darkly

Passage:John 3:1-17

Preacher: Ben Phillips

One of the hardest things to do is to face yourself. To see yourself as you really are. This is compounded by the fact that humans are hardwired to see what we want to see. What we need is an objective measure, a mirror, by which we can "see" ourselves. This is the purpose of God's law, to hold a mirror up to our hearts. Do we love as we ought. Do we not steal, not lie, not commit adultery? These objective measures don't create in us warm fuzzies but drive us to needing a Savior. God's other word to us, after the Law, is the Gospel, where Christ is revealed as the one who fulfills the Law and whose righteousness is graciously given to sinners through faith.
