Jesus Is Alive...So What? Part 5 - The Cross

Passage:1 Peter 3:18-21

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Series: Jesus Is Alive...So What?

In part 5 of this six part series on the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ we arrive at the heart of the Gospel. Jesus' resurrection changes our understanding of his death, that is the cross. We immediately ask the question, "Why did Jesus die?" to which the gospel itself answers from the 1 Peter 3 reading, "Christ died for sin once and for all, the righteous for the unrighteous". The doctrine of the cross known as substitutionary atonement is often not popular, but it is what the Apostles taught (and Jesus himself!), and without it Jesus' death on the cross ultimately makes no sense.
