Mission & Lament in the face of Calamity

Passage:Luke 4:1-13

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Category: Suffering

In Luke chapter 4, Jesus launches his ministry by going, of all places, into the desert and there to starve. Hardly a radical, provocative, nor successful launch. And just when he is at his weakest, instead of 'help arriving in the nick of time', Satan shows up to test him! As we begin the season of Lent, what does Jesus' own testing teach us about who He is as a Savior? We learn that our worship of God is accomplished through both praise and lament, something we often forget. We also learn that God's mission takes place in the face of calamity, and likewise does ours, because the Church's mission, that is, to make disciples of all nations, is in fact God's mission.
