Redeeming the Tragic Journey

Passage:Exodus 32:1-35

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Category: Redemption

Often times journies go well. The uneventful are sometimes the best. But journeys can end in failure and tragedy as well. The journey of Israel from Egypt began promising but ended up in failure, and would have completely ended were it not for three things: repentance, a mediator, and the merciful kindness of God. Starting from the 'iconic' story of the Golden Calf in Exodus, and bringing in all three other scritpure passages from todays readings (Psalm 51, 1 Timothy 1:12-17, and Luke 15:1-10), we will explore the need for repentance, the necessary presence of a mediator, and the real and powerful kindness of God to sinners.
