Sinners in the Hands of a Gracious God

Passage:Luke 15:1-32

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Category: Grace

The Parable of the Prodigal Son is perhaps the most vivid, poignant, stirring, and well known of all Jesus' parables. But yet it is actually not the parable of just one son, the prodigal, but of two sons. Each of these sons shows us two ways of relating to God. In the younger we see sin as a barrier to God, overcome by a gracious Father who takes his, and our, disgrace on himself. But we also see an older son, whose greatest obstacle to his Father is not his 'badness' but actually his 'goodness'. God the Father reaches out to both sons, and through Jesus Christ he both forgives our sin and shatters our notions of self-rightousness.
