Troubled Guests at a Gracious Table

Passage:Luke 14:1-14

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 14, Jesus has been invited to dinner, and there observes various religious leaders vying for the best and most honorable seats. Jesus' response to these fellow dinner guests is a parable, which at first glance looks simply like advice but is in fact much more. Jesus gives to those seated at the table a rebuke of their lack of humility, a reminder of true humbleness, and also discreetly reveals something about who he truly is, and the other guests need to be 'seated' rightly with him. Drawing from a parallel teaching from our OT lesson from Proverbs 25:1-7 we delve into this rich passage of the Gospel.
