True Food and Drink

Passage:John 6:51-58

Preacher: Ben Phillips

We are continuing in our study of John 6, a long and very profound section of the Gospel. It began with the feeding of the 5,000, and what follows is a lengthy discussion between Jesus, his followers, and his detractors. In today's reading Jesus declares that one must eat of his flesh and drink of his blood in order to have life. These words have awed, confused, angered, and blessed Christians for thousands of years, but what did Jesus mean by them? What does it mean to feed on Christ, to eat his flesh and drink his blood, and why on earth would that be Good News!?
