Two Pentecosts

Passage:Acts 2:1-21

Preacher: Ben Phillips

The Feast of Pentecost is the remembrance and celebration of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit of God, first upon Jesus' disciples, but also in an ongoing way right down to the present time. Two key elements of the account in Acts 2 are fire and rushing wind, which evoke the fire and rushing wind of the first Pentecost in Exodus. It was there at Mt. Sinai that God appeared and spoke to Israel, fifty days after being brought through the Red Sea. In today's sermon we will explore the pattern and themes of these two Pentecosts, and also why the second one is different and what that means for us today.
