Why December 25th?

Passage:Luke 2:1-20

Preacher: Ben Phillips

Category: Church Seasons

Why do we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th? The answer is surprising, and probably quite different from what you may have heard before. This yearly celebration of Jesus' Incarnation is at the heart of the Christian Gospel, one side of the coin of salvation - the other being Jesus death and resurrection at Easter. The Gospel accounts place Jesus' death at the time of the Jewish feast of Passover, which has great bearing on how the early Christians arrived at December 25th for his birth.
