Wrestling with God

Passage:Genesis 1-50

Preacher: Ben Phillips

We continue following the life and times of Jacob, who in this passage in Genesis 32 actually wrestles with God. He is just about to return and face his brother, Esau, and the night before their reunion, of which Jacob is naturally and well-deservedly fearful, Jacob physically wrestles with someone who turns out to be God. This 'wrestling match' reveals to us some very telling things about Jacob, who gets renamed "Israel" as a result, but even more so this match tells us much about God: his holiness, his capacity to bless, and his willingness to engage with us.
