You Mean This Stuff Is True

Passage:2 Peter 1:16-21

Preacher: Ben Phillips

In 2 Peter the apostle states that "We did not follow cleverly devised myths...but were eyewitnesses of the majesty of Jesus Christ." If we are to trust Jesus and follow him and take up our cross to do so, we must be sure that we know who he is. We must know and trust that what we know about him is reliable. The claim of the apostles is that they were eyewitnesses to the life and teachings of Jesus, and thus the New Testament is not a collection of timeless moral truths, but a testimony about who Jesus is and what he did and said. In today's sermon we encounter the importance of both the historical claims of the Christian faith and their connection to reliable witnesses, even regarding supernatural events.
