Vergers

Worship Ministry

St. George's vergers are specially trained volunteers who assist the clergy with preparing for and conducting worship services. In simple terms, they are the "master of ceremony" at each service; it is their responsibility to see that the various lay ministries involved with the service run smoothly.

Vergers wear black or gray robes and lead the procession carrying a staff (called a 'verge'). They help organize the Chalice Bearers and Lectors before the services, and work closely with the acolyte teams and are charged with contributing to the Christian formation of acolytes and shaping their ministry.
