Spring Parish-Wide Study: EXODUS

    Jan 10, 2017 | by Calvin Lane

This Spring we've got a fantastic opportunity to read together one book of the Bible, Exodus, the story of how God led his people out of bondage.  While the rector's 9:30 Sunday Bible study will be tackling Exodus, this is so much more than an adult Bible study! EXODUS for EVERYONE filters into everything we do here at St. George's in the spring (even finance meetings!).  We want to be a community that really knows the narrative of God's word.  And we aim to make this wildly accessible to folks who've never cracked open the Bible.  This is a no-shame zone!

Exodus is a particularly helpful book to read in our build-up to Holy Week and Easter where we see Christ - our Passover lamb, the lamb of God - slain for us.  All those deep echoes of Exodus come racing up when we see Jesus lead us out of our bondage to sin and death and into the promised land of new life in him.

To help us in our study, we're offering a easy-to-read resource, Exodus & Leviticus for Everyone by the Rev. Dr. John Goldingay, an Episcopal priest and professor of Old Testament at Fuller Theological Seminary.  Sign up for a copy in our Welcome Lounge.  We're offering copies for $10.  Likewise, Kindle editions are available for $10.   *We're only reading the Exodus half of the book.

We'll also be welcoming Dr. Don Collett, professor of Old Testament at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry on Sunday, April 23 to preach and teach.  What a joy to have a scholar come visit us and help us know this important biblical text!
