By a charcoal fire...

The word (in Greek) for charcoal fire only appears twice in the Bible - when Peter denies Jesus three times in that chilly courtyard and again on that bright morning on the beach when the risen Jesus asks Peter do you love me three times. What we find is the merciful Jesus reclaiming Peter, meeting him where he is, and then summoning Peter to follow him. There is no greater Gospel truth than we have a God who offers unmerited grace to broken sinners.
