Faith or worthiness?

Jesus hears two verdicts: elders say that a centurion is worthy because of his great works; the centurion himself says he is not worthy, but he has faith in Jesus, the one who has the words of life and authority.  How do we approach Jesus?  Do we approach with a sense of worthiness, or do we approach with open hands, trusting that he has the words of life?
