Fruits of the Spirit

Once forgiven, are we at liberty to live as we please?  What does Paul mean in his letter to the Galatians when he contrasts the desires of the "flesh" with the desires of the "Spirit"?  Does he mean a division between body and soul?  No!  Paul is speaking in his letter about the old unredeemed ways of life compared with life guided by the Holy Spirit.  Then life is indeed new and transformed!
