He doesn't give his sources?!

In these Sundays of Epiphany we're invited to ask a question: who is this Jesus.  We're no longer in Christmas and we're not yet in Lent.  This is the time we have to reflect on that question *before* we start the journey to the cross.  Here in Mark 1, the characters invite the reader to wonder with them -- who is this rabbi who teaches with such authority!?  And when he teaches, he doesn't refer to other teachers and rabbis.  Why not?  It is because Jesus is himself the source.  That is the subtle power of Mark's style in presenting Jesus as God in the flesh.
