Little Children
Christ welcomed children, an image we often see in wall murals in Sunday School classrooms. We are St. George's put our kids front and center, celebrating their place in our life together. But that image is actually somewhat revolutionary. In the ancient world, children were often thought of as "non-persons." Jesus here in Mark 9 overturns that thinking, insisting on the inherent dignity and immeasurable worth of every human life. And if we give up all our illusions about strength and power, we start to see that we too are like children, dependent on his grace and mercy.
