Maundy Thursday: What can be done...?

In Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, King Theodin, seeing that he is losing a battle and his world his falling apart, cries out "What can be done in the face of so much hate?"  Is there any doubt, seeing news about Syria, Korea, and even the Heroin crisis here in our community, that Tolkein's words have resonance?  If Easter is the inauguration of a new world and a new life, what is the call to us in such a world?  What can be done?  We wash feet.
